Is there a "cure" for lymphedema?

Regrettably, there is no known cure for lymphedema.

Medical professionals with experience in the field of lymphology are careful to educate patients and families that lymphedema is a chronic condition for which there is no known cure. Rather, it is a condition that is commonly "managed" with a variety of medical and surgical modalities in an attempt to control specific complications (i.e. infection, decreased range of motion, progressive deformity of the limb that negatively affects function, depression, and social isolation). Thoughtful management strategies additionally focus on a sense of slowing the progression of lymphedema with individualized temporal long-term follow up.
